7-16 DIN Connector (50 Ohm)

The 7/16 DIN connectors are 50 ohm threaded RF connectors used to connect coaxial cables. These types of RF plugs are used as a replacement for N connectors used in high power, low intermodulation applications, especially in communication systems. These connectors operate up to 7.5 GHz, have an impedance of 50 Ohms, and have the other significant feature of being weatherproof. Read more...

The 7/16 DIN connectors are mostly silver plated to minimize intermodulation distortion. There are both mountable and crimpable versions of these connectors, with the added advantage that they can be assembled as straight or right-angled plugs. There is a choice of male and female connectors. Their design is defined by the IEC 61169-4 standard.

How did the 7/16 DIN connector get its name?

The 7/16 DIN sockets get their name from the metric dimensions of the connector interface: 7 mm for the inner contact and 16 mm for the outer contact diameter. In addition, these connectors offer excellent performance in terms of both return loss and intermodulation distortion.

What other features do the 50 ohm 7/16 DIN connectors have?

The 7/16 DIN connectors were developed in the 1960s and were once used for military purposes. Today, however, these connectors have become very robust, extremely stable and water resistant, making them ideal for applications where vibration resistance and environmental protection are important. They have a pre-assembled seal to protect against dust and water. Their insulation is made of Teflon. Designed to minimize signal distortion from intermodulation, 7/16 DIN connectors are particularly suitable for base stations and communication systems.

What cables can be used to connect 50 ohm 7/16 DIN plugs?

These types of connectors can be connected primarily with Ecoflex 15, Ecoflex 15 Plus, H-155 or RG-58 cables.
