What power AC/DC Voltage Converters do we need?
The required output power is an important consideration when selecting an AC-DC power supply. The peak power drawn by the load will determine the required rating of the power supply. A converter with a higher power rating than the load may be an option, but it may be more expensive than required. An industrial power supply with a lower power rating than the load may fail or provide an incorrect output voltage. To avoid this, it is worth checking the input voltage of the equipment you are connecting to the converter.
What output voltage and current do we need for the AC/DC Voltage Converters?
The input voltage of AC-DC power supplies is mostly standardised, but the output voltages can vary over a wide range. This can be either 5, 12, 24 or 48 V DC. Many AC-DC converters may have a different output voltage from these, but a larger number of standard power supplies are available if the system load of the equipment connected to the converter is designed to use one of the common voltage levels.
If the standard output voltage is not suitable for the system or equipment, an industrial power supply can be installed that is custom designed to provide the required output voltage efficiently.
What safety and quality standards must industrial power supplies meet?
Of course, the AC-DC converters available in the DND Telecom webshop have the necessary operating and safety authority certificates. Because regardless of whether these devices are used for medical, household use or to connect to audio, video, information and communication devices, it is important that they have the right protection and grounding.
Industrial power supplies are certified by UL, TÜV, IEC, EN, FCC and CISPR. When purchasing, check which of the listed certification bodies has certified the converter, as this gives you a guarantee. What size converter to choose?
The appearance of a converter can be compared to a brick. To ensure an efficient internal layout, manufacturers design their teal-shaped industrial power supplies so that the AC input and DC output are opposite each other. Size should always be considered along with the cooling capacity required for the rated power. For industrial power supplies, maintenance of the internal fan is not feasible and undesirable due to acoustic noise, so converters are equipped with independent cold-wall and forced-air cooling. The unit comes with an accessory, namely a T-shaped mounting bracket, which can be used either under a desk, in a cupboard or on the wall to quickly and easily mount the power supplies.
Is the AC/DC Voltage Converters suitable for use in outdoor or industrial environments?
We need to be aware that the operating environment of an industrial power supply will greatly influence which version is chosen. Most power supply operating temperature specifications include certain criteria that will not allow all converters to be used in extreme temperature conditions.
This means that the specified output load power of the power supply is also reduced. At high temperatures, the maximum operating temperature of the components inside the power supply limits the power output. The maximum output power of many power supplies can be increased by using a fan to blow cold air into the power supply to help cool the internal components. But this should not be confused with the fact that industrial AC-DC converters have built-in overload and overheat protection for reliable operation.
