Active Hearing Protection Earmuffs
It is well known that prolonged and intense exposure to noise can damage hearing and negatively affect performance and concentration. It is therefore recommended that hearing protectors are worn for noise levels above 80 dB. Read more...

Basically, hearing protectors can be divided into two groups. Passive and active hearing protectors.
What makes active hearing protectors active?
Active hearing protectors are devices - in this case, earmuffs - that have built-in deafening. Hearing protectors without built-in electronics are classified as passive hearing protectors. The latter type of earmuffs protects hearing by passively (physically) shielding ambient sounds.
Active earmuffs, on the other hand, reduce harmful noise (e.g. aircraft noise, printing, gunshots) to below the safe level of 80 dB, while amplifying human speech, softer sounds and background noise, depending on the ear. Sudden harmful noise effects, pulse noise, are cut off where appropriate.
The active ears detect ambient sounds using an external microphone and reproduce these sounds at a safe volume for the ear. Built-in electronics ensure noise cancellation, a technology that makes communication and perception easier.
Some active earsets also have a built-in FM radio. This makes working more comfortable, as you can listen to your favourite music in stereo through the radio ear protection. The volume control knobs are easy to operate for radio and noise level dependent function.
Depending on the type, you can connect your mobile phone, VHF radio transceiver or other devices with sound levels below 82 dB to the active earpiece via the built-in 3.5 mm jack socket.
The active earmuffs have a menu system with voice feedback. In use, a sound at the touch of a button indicates where you are in the menu and gives you a clear indication of your settings. Thanks to an automatic power-off feature, the earmuffs typically switch off the built-in electronics after a few hours of inactivity, increasing battery life.
Active earmuffs are used in a wide range of applications such as hunting and shooting, but are also used in the police, military and construction industries.
In addition to protecting hearing, active hearing protectors have many advantages. They are comfortable to wear, have an adjustable size and can be combined with helmets.
Some of the active earmuffs are interchangeable, they can be purchased with a different coloured plastic case, and the ear pads are also interchangeable, which is a very important factor for hygiene reasons. Active hearing protectors have a soft, wide ear cushion to reduce pressure around the ear, increase comfort and provide adequate protection in noisy environments.
When choosing electronic hearing protectors, it is advisable to consider the activity for which the earmuffs are to be used and the intensity of the sound effects that may occur. It is recommended to purchase hearing protectors with an appropriate noise attenuation value.
How do we use active ears?
Active earmuffs should completely cover the ears during use to ensure perfect sound isolation. The size of the headband should also be adjusted to ensure that the padding provides the right pressure around the ears for the best possible noise reduction. Care should also be taken to ensure that, when in use, hair or other material does not get under the padding which could break the perfect seal.
To clean active hearing protectors, wash the ear pads with warm, soapy water. Do not use alcohol or solvents! Replace the ear cushions immediately in case of possible damage, but at least twice a year even if they are used without damage.
3M active hearing protection for sport shooting, hunting
3M Peltor active hearing protection headsets are specially designed for sport shooting, hunting and military use. Thanks to the built-in electronics, the products are able to filter out sudden impulse-like sound effects, such as the sound of a gunshot. In the case of the noise-reducing earmuffs, they are designed with an oblique curve to prevent contact between the earpiece and the rifle butt. The soft, wide ear cushion provides a reduction in pressure around the ear, increasing comfort and wearability while still providing sufficient protection in most noisy environments.
The electronic noise-dependent earmuffs in this category help you protect your hearing, increase situational awareness and improve communication. The state-of-the-art noise-dependent technology provides excellent hearing protection in noisy areas and increases situational awareness in quieter environments.
