The most modern of these is LED lighting, which manufacturers are making more efficient with various solutions to increase the lighting effect. For example: magnifying lenses or parabolic reflectors of different designs. At the same time, blue rooflights with halogen or xenon light sources are still available, depending on the user's needs.
What you need to know about Blue Beacon
They can come in a variety of designs depending on their mounting. Blue roof flashing with a magnetic fixing typically has a cigarette lighter socket, but there are also flush-mounted flashing rooflights, i.e. fixed screw-mounted flashing rooflights, or DIN standard flush-mounted flashing rooflights that can be connected to the electrical system of a vehicle or siren. These blue roof indicators are available in 12V or 24V versions.
In addition to the blue light, mobile lights are also available in red and yellow. Depending on the type, the colour of the dome or the LED colour can be selected according to the user's requirements. Multicolour blue lamps are now also available, which means that 2 to 3 or 4 colours can be displayed on the lamp body. This design also allows the vehicle using the warning signal to have emergency vehicle privileges where appropriate, for example if the road maintenance vehicle is rushing to secure an accident scene.
The number of modules in the LED roof light may vary depending on the manufacturer, the main thing is that its performance complies with the current road traffic regulations and standards.
Depending on the type of blue roof light and the customer's requirements, it can flash or strobe, or flash continuously in a circle to imitate a rotating flashing light.
The blinking pattern of the blue light signal may vary from country to country, so manufacturers program several light sequences into the lamp's electronics, which the user or installer can choose, taking into account the country's regulations. In Hungary, the European standard is also applicable, which means that blue roof indicators must comply with R65 and R10 certificates, which specify the photometric parameters of the product. The ORFK Instruction 1/2017 is responsible for the police tasks related to the authorisation and control of the installation and use of devices that give distinctive and warning signals.
When to choose a Blue Beacon?
You should choose a blue roof sign if you want to ensure 360° visibility or if you do not want the vehicle to show that the occupants are performing a public duty of high importance or are doing their job but do not want the public to know for their safety.
For example, on diplomatic, secret service, investigative authority vehicles or emergency service vehicles used intermittently (gas works, water works, ELMŰ). However, blue roof lights can also be used when the vehicle structure does not allow the use of a light bridge, for example: crane trucks, lift trucks, construction machinery or when a cost-effective solution is sought.
Why is the use of Blue Beacon important?
Only vehicles authorised to use distinctive markings may use the blue light and they are only allowed to use it in emergency situations. So, when we see a roof light using a blue light, it indicates to us that someone who is entitled to use it is in the vicinity of an emergency or is on their way to the scene of one. Therefore, if a vehicle with such a distinctive sign is in motion, we must always give it priority and ensure its unimpeded progress by pulling over or even stopping. If a vehicle with such a light signal is stationary, you should approach it with increased caution.
What types of vehicles can the Blue Beacon be used on?
Blue roof lights can be used by police, fire brigade, ambulance, government vehicles, military police and emergency services vehicles.
What rules apply to the use of Blue Beacons?
The use of this type of distinguishing sign is governed by the provisions of BM Decree 13/2023 (25.V.25.). In order to be fitted to a vehicle, blue differentiating lamps must comply with R65 and R10. When operating, care must be taken that the blue roof lights are clearly visible from all angles. What exactly does this mean? They must be clearly visible at a distance of 20 to 50 metres from the vehicle and at a height of one and a half metres. But, of course, blue roof lights can also be accompanied by blue supplementary lights.
How are Blue Beacons installed?
When installing, you must take into account the technical specifications and the rules for operation. You can choose between screw and magnetic fixing of the blue roof light. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. The screw version fixes the flasher firmly to the body of the car, thus providing a much more secure fixing than the magnetic blue roof light. But installing it involves opening the roof.
Otherwise, mounting the magnetic light offers much more mobility, but its attachment is not as stable as the screw-on version. If you opt for the screw-mounted roof light, you will need to drill holes in the bodywork in the appropriate places. The next step is to fit and fix the support bracket. Once the distinctive sign is correctly positioned and the brackets are attached to the vehicle to be fitted with the blue turn signal, you are almost ready. All that remains is to connect the light signal control unit properly. Once the LED light source has been accurately and stably fixed, the next step is to connect the roof flashing to the electrical system and fit the dome. The installation of a screw rooflight is best done by a professional.
How durable and weatherproof are Blue Beacons?
Blue screw or magnetic roof lights are made of polycarbonate for the drum and aluminium for the underside, which are both highly durable and UV resistant. Thanks to their design and quality materials, these flashers are sure to retain their shape and colour from -40 to +60 degrees Celsius, as well as withstand severe external shocks. Therefore, when you purchase blue roof lights from the DND Telecom webshop, durability and weather resistance are guaranteed.
Is there any special advice you should know before buying Blue Beacons?
Blue roof lights are not for private use. Under current legislation, anyone who uses a light of this colour without permission is committing an offence.
