What makes a hearing protection headset for communication?
Radio ears can either have a built-in transceiver or be connected (typically with a radio-specific adapter cable) to an ICOM, Motorola, Hytera professional transceiver radio, EDR tetra radio or DECT telephone. In communication hearing protectors, the built-in radio may be a PMR (walkie-talkie) radio or a professional URH transceiver. The latter requires programming, which can be done by the seller after consultation with the customer.
In the standard package, 3M Peltor communication ears come with a universal connection surface to which a walkie-talkie radio can be connected using the adapters mentioned above.
The great thing about the communication earmuffs is that, together with their hearing protection properties, they are able to provide reliable, high-quality speech transmission even in noisy environments. This is typically achieved by using a two-way microphone that extends in front of the mouth to extract the sound from the side of the mouth and only the noise from the environment is transmitted to the radio. This ensures that only the noise-reduced speech sound is transmitted through the radio. The transmit start button can be operated either on the radio tab or on the cable.
High Visibility communication tabs

This is particularly important in workplaces where good hearing protection is important alongside high visibility (e.g. airport ground staff, highway workers). This greatly increases worker safety due to the striking colour of the headset.
Neckband, headband and helmet-mounted radio headsets
The radio buil-in communication headsets are available in neck strap, head strap and helmet-mounted versions. Wearable at your convenience, they provide a greater sense of comfort and allow you to create your own individual comfort. Depending on the design, the communication hearing protectors can also be combined with other protective devices (e.g. helmet, face shield). The ear muffs have an adjustable headband that covers the entire ear, providing perfect protection and comfort.
The neck strap (neck strap) communication hearing protector can be worn with other personal protective equipment (e.g. face shield, helmet) or on their own.

VOX function for communication hearing protectors
Some models also have a VOX (voice operated exchange) function. This voice-activated transmission allows hands-free conversation, as the transmission is initiated by voice and no button is pressed. This radio buil-in communication hearing protector headset is particularly useful in work environments where communication with colleagues is essential in noisy environments. For example: next to a production line, in an industrial environment, but the VOX function is also used in a baby monitor radio. But it's also useful for any task where you need both hands, whether at work or as a hobby.
For voice-activated transmission, select VOX or IVOX from the menu! The device's microphone turns on and automatically switches the radio to transmit when it detects noise. By adjusting the sensitivity of this function, you can avoid the device being activated by background noise. The VOX function also includes a delay to prevent the circuit from deactivating during pauses in speech.
VOX headsets may vary considerably in quality and practical usability.
