What are the characteristics of 50 ohm N-connectors?
The N-plugs available in the DND Telecom webshop are nickel plated and have a gold plated inner conductor, are insulated with Teflon or in some cases PTFE and are used for HF, VHF or UHF bands. These threaded connectors are primarily designed for high frequency use, i.e. up to 11 GHz.
Originally they were designed for military use, during which they were capable of transmitting signals up to 1 GHz. But as technology has evolved, this has changed. As indicated above, these sockets have an impedance of 50 ohms. What is also worth mentioning is that they have low contact resistance.
What else you should know about the N-connector
The N-plug was almost the first connector capable of transmitting microwave signals with frequencies ranging from roughly 0.3 to 300 GHz. This type of connector was invented in the 1940s by Paul Neill. That's why it's called the N-connector, as it's the initial of the inventor's surname.
What brand of 50 ohm N-connector is available in the DND Telecom webshop?
