Safety Glasses
Of our 5 main senses, vision is through our eyes, so it's important to protect them properly. Since accidents can be prevented by the correct use of appropriate protective equipment, the use of safety glasses is based on the principle of prevention. Wearing them is essential in areas where the eyes are constantly exposed to harmful external influences. Read more...

What are the negative effects that safety glasses protect against?
- Mechanical risks. These can damage the cornea and iris, and the lens of the eye can become opaque. Such activities may include: grinding and cutting, engraving, quarrying and machining, working with debris removal and crushing machines, forging, removing and chipping debris, spreading abrasives, using a brush-clearer or chainsaw, woodworking, roadwork, shooting sports
- Non-ionising radiation: This includes damage to the eyes caused by sunlight, which can lead to cataracts in the longer term. But non-ionising radiation can also be received by the eyes during the following work activities: work with radiant heat, melting furnace operations, laser work, outdoor work, welding and flame cutting, glass blowing, germicidal lamps
- Ionising radiation: Typical jobs include operating X-ray equipment, working near medical X-ray diagnosis, working with radioactive products
- Chemical injuries. For example: gases, vapours, acids, alkalis, fumes, fine dust. Contact with these harmful substances can lead to corneal burns, viral infections, conjunctivitis, etc. Examples of such activities include: paint spraying, woodworking, mining operations
- Biological hazards: during work involving contact with the human body, animal body fluids and tissues, or in the presence of biological agents
In Europe, personal protective equipment, including goggles, is covered by Regulation 2016/425. EN 166 specifies the requirements for personal eye protection equipment. Safety eyewear is CE marked.
There are several types of safety goggles, depending on the job, from simple safety goggles to individually tailored dioptric safety goggles and welding goggles. Many of them have adjustable temples and are made of soft materials for a better fit and comfort, so they can be adapted to different face shapes. 3M premium goggles have the highest optical rating.
Lens coatings on safety goggles
The goggles we sell are available with different lens types. These safety glasses are provided with special coatings. This includes the patented DX premium coating technology. As part of our product range, you can choose from several options.
- Scratch Resistant (AS): the multi-layer coating provides excellent protection and increased durability.
- Anti-fog (AF): the coating prevents fogging of the lens, ensuring clearer vision.
- Anti-scratch and anti-fog (AS-AF): this coating combination provides perfect protection against scratching and fogging of the lens.
- DX: this coating provides excellent protection against scratching, fogging, static and chemical effects. DX anti-fog coating has the same lifetime as your glasses.
- Mirror coating: this special coating protects against scratches, UV radiation, sunlight and glare by reflecting harmful light rays.
For a better fit, many 3M goggles can be adjusted to fit the shape of the face thanks to the soft material of the contact points. In many cases, several pieces of personal protective equipment must be worn at the same time, so compatibility with other protective equipment is an important consideration for each product.
In terms of eye protection, the choice of goggles should also take into account light conditions, local conditions and temperature. Goggles have different coloured lenses. They do not distort vision even after prolonged use and are therefore perfectly suitable for long-term use.
The 3M safety glasses with different coloured lenses
- Clear lens: provides impact and UV protection.
- Yellow and orange lenses: protection against impact, UV and blue light (480 nm), contrast enhancement in low visibility conditions
- Grey lens: protection against impact, UV and arc light, can be used in both sunny and low visibility environments (the mirror coating on the outside of the lens allows the lens to remain transparent while reflecting rather than absorbing light)
- Bronze lens: protection against impact, UV, visible light and blue light (480 nm); for sunny and reflective surfaces (good colour recognition)
- Blue lens: protects against glare, UV and bright light; prevents glare and eye fatigue in monochrome (single colour), yellow light environments
- Green lens: protection against glare, UV radiation, visible light and infrared radiation; application: welding
Protective safety glasses for sport shooting
The wide range of safety goggles also includes goggles for shooting. In addition to maximum performance during sporting activities, it is very important to have a perfect optical quality and to provide adequate protection against bouncing particles and bullet casings.
3M goggles are cleaned with a suitable goggle cleaning fluid and a wipe or with lukewarm soapy water and a soft cloth.
