SMA Connector (50 Ohm)

SMA connectors are used in radio frequency and microwave applications. Therefore, they are used as external antenna connectors for small antennas, as well as for amateur radios, mobile phone antennas and more recently in WiFi systems. However, for WiFi equipment, we often use so-called reverse polarity, or RP-SMA, connectors. Read more...

SMA connectors can be used at frequencies above 14 GHz. However, these connectors were originally designed for use at 12 GHz, but this has been improved over time, resulting in a number of variants that can be used up to 18 GHz and/or 26.5 GHz. For this reason, SMA connectors are widely used in applications such as telecommunications, aviation and wireless networking.

As with the other connectors, a distinction is made between straight and 90 degree plugs. In terms of installation, there are both crimp and solder versions. However, there are also a large number of sockets available, most of which have an internal thread.

What is a crimpable 50 ohm SMA connector?

It means that this type of connector is not soldered, but the outer part is pressed onto the wire with a special tool, a crimping tool. The impedance of an SMA connector is 50 Ω. These so-called semi-precision coaxial connectors were developed in the 1960s and were not recommended for metrological applications even then.

What are the characteristics of 50 ohm SMA connectors?

These types of plugs offered in the DND Telecom web store have a gold-plated center conductor and/or nickel-plated exterior and Teflon insulation.

What does SMA stand for?

SMA stands for SubMiniature A version, which in English stands for SubMiniature A version.

What brands of 50 ohm SMA connectors are available in the DND Telecom webshop?

We have a wide range of SMA plugs and sockets available in our webshop. The main brands of SMA connectors are Telegartner, SSB and Amphenol, all of which are of high quality.
