What is the difference between traditional soldering irons and digital soldering stations?

Anyone who has used a soldering gun or soldering iron knows that temperature control plays a major role when soldering. The analogue soldering stations control the temperature in an analogue way, while the digital versions allow the temperature to be controlled digitally, in degrees. The digital soldering stations display the temperature at the tip of the soldering iron on their screen.
Do I need a special soldering gun or will a general purpose one do?
When buying a soldering iron, you should pay close attention to its quality. If you are looking for a soldering iron that is mainly for hobbyist work, you should choose the simpler version, but if you want a soldering iron for continuous work, for example for industrial use, then a professional one is the right choice for you. For different repairs, which type of soldering iron tip should you choose?

When it comes to soldering tips, a distinction should be made between chisel-shaped and pencil-shaped tips. The former usually forms a 2 mm chisel-shaped tip. The latter is more suitable for more delicate work.
How do I choose the right soldering station for PCB soldering?
Today's processes involve soldering only 5 to 8 percent of components onto PCBs (short for Printed Circuit Boards) using through-hole technology. This is because it is much safer, more cost-effective and more efficient than SMD technology, which stands for Surface Mount Device.
This in turn requires reflow soldering or wave soldering. Therefore, experts recommend using special SMD soldering stations, sometimes called hot air stations or reflow stations. Their use requires professional skills and practice.
What is the temperature range of soldering stations and why is this important?
Today's soldering stations are mainly used for soft soldering, with a temperature range of between 150 and 450 degrees Celsius. Soldering between 450 and 900 degrees Celsius is called brazing. For soldering, the different solder pads provide sufficient heat, whereas for brazing, a high temperature flame produced from a mixture of oxygen and combustible gas is required. Above 900 degrees Celsius, we are talking about welding, which requires a completely different tool.

For example, getting an indication from the device that the soldering station has reached the operating temperature. It should have a soldering iron support, a replaceable soldering iron and an on/off indicator light.
