In big cities, indoor TV antennas are the most common solution
An indoor TV antenna is a smaller device in both size and power compared to the outdoor version. It is mobile, not only easy to install, but can also be moved around the home at will. It can therefore be a solution for people who live, for example, in flats or condominiums where it is not possible to install an outdoor TV antenna.
With an average range of up to 30 km, it is also an ideal solution for those living near a broadcast tower. Their efficiency can be further increased by using a signal booster. It is advisable to place them at the highest possible point within the dwelling, as close as possible to the windows, to reduce interference from walls.
The range of an outdoor TV antenna can be up to 100 km
In contrast to the easy-to-install indoor antenna, the installation of an outdoor TV antenna requires not only a lot of work, but also a certain level of expertise. Much larger and more powerful types are usually placed on the roofs of houses or garages, where the property's conditions allow it. Their range can exceed 100 km, depending on the conditions of the surrounding area.
In terms of use, it is considered a common solution where the broadcasting tower is located more than 30 km away or where there are obstacles between the two points that prevent the signal from being received. There are two other types of outdoor antenna: passive antennas are not connected to electricity and not only receive the signal but also amplify it.
They are not only passive antennas, but also transmit and receive signals
There are currently about a dozen TV channels in Hungary that are available free of charge, without monthly fees from TV operators. There is no additional cost beyond the price of the TV aerial, but in return you can enjoy excellent, in most cases HD quality, which can even surpass the experience of a pay cable service. In addition to free-to-air digital broadcasts, a wide range of other services are available for a subscription.
To install a TV aerial, you will need a TV set with a standardised DVB-T tuner and, in some cases, a decoder. With a coverage rate of almost 99% in Hungary, this is an option available to all households.
It pays to buy a quality TV antenna
Whether you buy a digital TV aerial for indoor or outdoor TV, it is a one-off expense, but afterwards it can greatly improve the picture quality you get, which is also better able to withstand the elements.
In Hungary, after the complete switch-off of the national analogue terrestrial television broadcasting, only a digital service called Mindig TV and Mindig TV Prémium (formerly known as Extra) are available in terrestrial broadcasting. While the Mindig TV service allows you to watch TV without a subscription fee, the Mindig TV Prémium is available as a subscription service. MinDig TV and MinDig TV Prémium require a broadband antenna in the UHF band and a DVB-T MPEG-4 decoder (set-top box) or integrated television with a built-in DVB-T MPEG-4 HD tuner. Our company only sells indoor and outdoor TV antennas that are suitable for receiving digital terrestrial TV programs.
