The advantage of walkie-talkies is that you can talk on them for free, they are not radio licence required. However, as their radio frequency output power is only 0.5W, they provide limited radio coverage. You may not be able to talk to PMR radios inside a large building or beyond a few streets. In such a case, we can either recommend a professional profssional two-way radios or a GSM-based POC transceiver. Walkie-talkie transceivers are available as analogue radios, but some manufacturers also offer digital PMR 446 walkie-talkies.

Walkie talkies can be used by anyone

There are many differences between hobby walkie-talkies and professional, e.g. industrial, VHF equipment, although modern walkies are increasingly resembling their more serious radio relatives. Professional radio receivers, which require a licence, are usually housed in a rugged metal casing, while walkie-talkies are housed in lightweight, often strikingly coloured plastic. Professional two-way radios often have only a few frequencies, as a particular business or public safety operator is often licensed for only a few frequencies. Hobby walkie-talkies may have access to all the channels on a given band, and this can sometimes cause complications. Unlicensed walkie-talkies can be used on the unlicensed radio channel PMR446 in our country.

No one should be fooled by the hobbyist tag, walkie-talkies have a powerful superheterodyne receiver, making them excellent communication tools whether for business or personal use. Importantly, there are strict rules on the manufacture of hobby devices, they cannot be modified and their antennas cannot be dismantled. Their range is usually given in kilometres or miles.

A walkie-talkie can be used for a number of things:

Toy

Whether it's a traditional ipi-patch, a numbers war or any other game, the fun is only enhanced when kids can stay in constant radio contact with each other. And of course, adults can always join in too!

Hiking, hiking, field trips

You don't have to reach for your mobile every time you want to find out where your companions are on a hike or a trek. A walkie-talkie is a cost-effective and practical solution, and it can even be used in places where there is no phone coverage.

Militaristic games, treasure hunter games (finders)

Paintball, laser tag, and various treasure hunting and free-ranging games have never been more popular than they are today. The tasks are often very difficult, so it's worth going on an adventure equipped with a walkie-talkie, as team communication can make or break a game.

Communicating across sites the size of industry

Work is faster and more efficient when colleagues are in constant contact with each other. In a larger site, building a telephone infrastructure would be expensive, but a walkie-talkie can be attached to every employee's belt.

At the same time, it's faster and more efficient to get people to work together more quickly and efficiently.

Team building programmes and games

Team-building is a must in the life of any company, and programmes often involve outdoor games. A walkie-talkie allows instant communication between team members or even between organisers, making the adventure safer and more exciting.

Group trips, business trips, safaris

Any tour guide knows that it is not easy to keep a group of tourists "together", especially in a big city or on a safari. With a radio walkie-talkie, you can keep track of everyone's position, and it's easier to call the group together.

Event organisation

A wedding, conference, workshop or other event can take place in a huge building of several hundred square metres. There is hardly a more effective way to communicate than with a discreet yet perfectly functional walkie-talkie.

Security work (e.g. festivals)

The work of security guards can only be effective if they are in constant contact with each other. Especially when, for example, a large area needs to be controlled at a festival. Walkie-talkies allow fast, efficient and immediate communication.

Farming

In the fields, workers typically have to overcome considerable distances to talk to each other. A mobile phone is often out of the question, as there may not be sufficient coverage away from settlements. The solution? The walkie-talkie, of course.

Transport

In logistics, every minute counts, so real-time communication is important. A walkie-talkie can be used on site, but it's also a great choice for trucks and vans in convoys.

Film and media

On a film shoot or TV recording, dozens or even hundreds of people need to coordinate their work in real time. If everyone has a good quality walkie-talkie, you can get the film rolling!

The range of walkie-talkie radios is usually marked on the box, which can be 4-10 km, but you also have to take into account the terrain. A range of 10 km sounds good, but it is only feasible if you are in an open space and the walkie-talkies can see each other optically. In reality, e.g. inside a building the range is a few 100 meters, while in a city it can be 1-2 km, depending on the density of buildings.

DND Telecom Center offers more than 40 types of walkie-talkie radios to ensure that we can provide you with the best device. Visit our store where our colleagues will be happy to show you the walkie-talkie radios in stock and you can try them out.
