Multidetector
A multidetector, or wall scanner as it is called, is a device that can find electrical wiring, plumbing and metal in walls. But it can also reveal wooden structures. Why do we need such a device? Unfortunately, many accidents happen during home repairs and renovations. Read more...
Pre-order (1)
• Use it to avoid accidentally drilling into wiring in the wall
• Signal: optical + acoustic
• Detection: wood, metal, AC wiring
• Automatic switch-off
• Dimensions: 28 × 72 × 155 mm
• Power supply: 1× 9 V (included)
Hidden wires, poles, and ironwork are a source of danger for everyone. With a multidetector, you can find wires, pipes, scaffolding behind drywall or even sewage lines in the ground that are hidden from the naked eye. So whether you're planning a renovation or just want to poke a few dowels into the wall, we should use a handheld wall scanner like the pros.
What other useful features does a multidetector have?
The range of multidetectors is very wide. Designed for industrial use, handheld multidetectors have additional useful features on top of their basic function. This means that the device can be used as a voltage or continuity monitor, for example. This makes it easier to find and repair damaged cables. But the laser level indicator and built-in water meter also help you get the job done.
But the professional digital multidetector is not only suitable for detecting walls, it can also be used to find wires 2 metres underground. When using professional multidetectors, you can also select the detection mode. You can set the material you want the wall scanner to show you what you're looking for, making your work even more efficient.
But we can also control how the device signals to us. For multidetectors, there are two general types of signals: acoustic and visual. Choose the one that is most convenient for you, but you can use both if it suits you.
How does a multidetector work?
As the name suggests, we use a digital multifunction detector to find hidden wires. This device can detect alternating currents in electrical wiring behind walls.
Most multidetectors can quickly find metal, but wood or plastic objects are much harder to detect. For this flexibility, you need a professional digital multidetector. The principle of operation varies from detector to detector, but for detecting materials such as metal or copper cable, it basically works as follows.
When the wall scanner is switched on, it emits electromagnetic waves. These beams travel through the wall and can show us where the wire is located up to a depth of 12 centimetres. How is this possible? When a wave reaches a certain surface, the change in the electromagnetic field can be measured. The detector registers these changes and displays them for us. It all works very quickly and simply. Most multidetectors are very simple devices. They have a few buttons and are very easy to use.
What should you look out for when using a multidetector?
The modern multidetector can even find wooden beams behind a wall. Choose a wall scanner that is easy on your hands and therefore comfortable to use. Because finding and tracing an electrical wire, for example, may require working in awkward positions or hard-to-reach places.
The position of detected materials is usually displayed on a large display on the more modern models. Cheaper multidetectors designed for home use are shaped like a torch and weigh on average only around 200 grams. The more capable professional multidetectors are very similar to digital rangefinders and weigh only slightly more, around 400 grams.
These devices fit almost as well in the hand as their smaller brothers. Operation is a single push of a button. Don't worry, unless you have serious manual dexterity, this device doesn't require much technical knowledge. Wire locators are generally intuitive to operate.
Whether for home or industrial use, our range allows you to choose the right multidetector for your needs from our online store.
