Search Light

Searchlights, also known as hand-held spotlights, are characterised by a high-intensity light source that is diffused evenly but at a wide angle (usually 90-150 degrees). This is most often provided by a single high-power LED with a much higher than average light output, up to over 5000. However, their range is less long, only a few hundred metres, so their main use is in activities where a lot of light is needed but not a long range. With these modern hand-held floodlights, working at night is easier, faster and safer, providing a practical solution to problems in the dark. They can be ideal equipment for hikers, hunters, anglers, boaters, search teams, security guards or even people from the authorities. Read more...

What is the ideal searchlight?

When choosing the ideal searchlight, the key requirements are sufficient brightness, the longest possible range, reliable operation and long battery life:

  • The amount of lumens needed for an average work lamp is usually between 100 and 2000. The exact amount of lumens required for a searchlight category will depend on the size of the project, the location and the working environment, typically between 2000 and 10000 lumens. In terms of range, a beam over 200 metres is considered good.
  • For a searchlight, predictable operation and a firm grip are of paramount importance, Ideally a searchlight should be both impact and water resistant. Not for underwater use, but at least for use in rain or spraying and for occasional dipping. At the same time, the handle should be non-slip, it is recommended to have a hook or handle on it to hang and secure the lamp if necessary. It is also useful to have some sort of battery gauge or warning indicator to show that the battery is low and either needs to be recharged or replaced.
  • In terms of power supply, it is worth choosing a searchlight with a rechargeable battery instead of a disposable battery version. These can be recharged from a wall socket, a cigarette lighter or a portable battery using the chargers that come with them.

Searchlights from DND

The Big Gun searchlight in the DND range embodies in one product what is described above. It has a high brightness, 4-core LED light source with 2000 lumens, capable of emitting a spotlight up to 300 meters. Thanks to its rugged design, it can be used in a variety of situations and the housing is IP55 rated. This means that it is protected against both dust and low-pressure water jets, making it ideal for use in rainy weather. The 5000 mAh battery built into the device allows for several hours of continuous operation even at maximum power, while it can charge our smart devices via USB and micro USB ports. The Big Gun searchlight is equipped with non-slip handles for comfortable use, one of which can be converted into a tripod with three legs. So you can place it anywhere to provide a stable light source to illuminate the desired area.
